There are many sites of interest to see along the Offa’s Dyke path and these include many castles, hill forts, a cathedral and abbey, aqueducts, museums and the book shops of the famous Hay on Wye plus of course the natural beauty of the changing landscape. As a photographer the wealth of photographic opportunities along these two trails is an exciting prospect. I just hope I can adequately manage the time between photography and walking so that I return to Colombia with the images that tell the story of the trip, while at the same time keeping to my walking schedule and not getting further and further behind.
I hope to start the trip in early April next year and so I have approximately 11 months to increase my fitness levels, buy the items I need for the trip and finish the planning. When I was 23 and I travelled round South America for just over one year I do not remember doing that much planning, just a rough idea of where I was heading and a copy of South America on a Shoestring. Now as I rapidly approach 60 that carefree air has been replaced in some respects by a more responsible nature, and these days I like to be in control of situations more than during my youth and tend to feel uncomfortable if I am not. But in the end only so much can be planned and any journey of this duration is going to have some unexpected twists and turns, just like the paths I will be following.
